How to compare a furnace-cleaning quote
Two prices are comparable only when they cover the same equipment, access, labour and verification. One advertisement may mean an exterior cabinet wipe; another may include removing a blower, cleaning a coil, checking a drain and inspecting a gas furnace. Ask both bidders to mark each component as included, excluded or conditional after inspection.
The useful observation
Get the furnace model, site conditions and symptoms into the request. Note whether it is a condo fan coil or a gas furnace, where the access panel is, whether a basement or closet is cramped, and whether a renovation, pest issue or water event preceded the complaint. Geographic distance and parking or building access can also affect a real quote, but a postal code alone cannot determine the work.
What a good scope includes
Request the basis for add-ons, credentials for fuel work, photographs of the issue and post-work check. If the written gap is large after scope is aligned, obtain a second opinion with the same evidence. Do not ignore a confirmed unsafe condition while comparing routine cleaning offers. Prices on this site are not invented because local quotes change and the observed condition matters more than a fixed tariff.
Where the boundary sits
Keep the signed authorization and final invoice. If work changed on site, ask for the new finding and price in writing before it proceeds.
